Our client, an established UK regulated financial institution, is seeking to appoint an experienced Chief Risk Officer (SMF4) to join its executive leadership team. This is a significant senior appointment, offering the opportunity to play an influential role in shaping the organisation's strategic direction, strengthening its risk management framework and ensuring that commercial objectives are supported by effective governance, sound judgement and a strong, forward-looking risk culture.
We are seeking an accomplished senior banking professional with substantial executive-level experience and deep financial risk expertise, particularly across credit and portfolio risk, capital, liquidity and wider prudential matters. Whilst the remit encompasses the full breadth of enterprise risk management, a strong technical grounding in financial risk, coupled with a comprehensive understanding of the UK banking regulatory framework, will be fundamental to this appointment.
The successful candidate will have operated at a senior level within a PRA/FCA regulated bank, building society or comparable financial institution, ideally having previously held an SMF or equivalent senior leadership position. They will bring the credibility and personal stature to engage confidently with senior stakeholders, Boards and regulators, alongside the commercial acumen and independence of judgement to provide constructive challenge and contribute meaningfully to strategic decision-making.
Of equal importance will be the ability to lead, develop and inspire a high-performing risk function, build influential relationships across the organisation and promote a collaborative, commercially aware approach to risk management. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to operate beyond traditional risk oversight, bringing an enterprise-wide perspective and acting as a trusted strategic adviser to the executive leadership team and Board.
